When CHERRY S/T released Disown the World in 2005, Boston radio stations touted the group as one of the next great American rock bands. For a band that has always separated itself from genre stereotypes, CHERRY S/T was establishing new ground and aggressively pursuing larger audiences for their music.
“WAAF has a history of identifying the great upcoming stars of tomorrow. Now, that being said, this pick is easy this year - CHERRY S/T's sound is huge, and at their age!!!” - WAAF, Boston
The 2006 release of Nova Sonic was an impressive follow-up as the band continued to build on its previous success. Utilizing the production and writing talents of Producer/Songwriter/Engineer, Jimmy Robertson Landry, and added punch from Canadian Producer, Dale Penner (Nickelback & Econoline Crush), CHERRY S/T added programming and keyboards to its already massive sound. The band travelled to the famous Factory Studios in Vancouver B.C. to record Nova Sonic, called by music critics, “a record that rivals that of any major label band out there.” The record has been licensed repeatedly by ESPN and MTV, as well as television shows on the Fuel Network and independent films.
Performing with the likes of Staind, Sevendust, Filter, Chevelle, Quiot Riot, RA, Buck Cherry and many others, the road-tightened CHERRY S/T continued writing and honing their unique sound. With heavy touring in the Northeast and up and down the east coast, the band had amassed a significant following and another 25 new songs.
“I’ve had CHERRY S/T open for many nationals to help draw a crowd, and their live performance has blown all of the acts away. They are simply at that level.” - Bernie J. Goulet (Northeast Promoter)
Fast-forward a year and a half, CHERRY S/T has returned with a blockbuster album that puts them light years ahead of their peers. Produced again by Jimmy Robertson Landry and adding the engineering/mixing magic of Jon “the fist” Wyman, A Diary to Burn By is an incredible leap forward in confidence, sound and style. “We didn’t think about what we had done in the past or trying to reinvent ourselves. We just spilled our guts out into these songs,” says co-founder and guitarist, Dan Maleck. “We have grown musically and we’ve been able to open things up a bit and push the limits with Deuce coming on board.” John “Deuce” Wiley joined the band over a year ago and brought his strengths in songwriting, keys and guitars. His influence has brought the band to another level.
The electrifying new album is scheduled for an early 2008 release and builds on the previous success of Nova Sonic, which launched the CHERRY S/T name into the stratosphere within the industry and with fans across the U.S. The band is scheduled to launch a tour of the U.S. in mid-January, starting and ending in Boston and will include stops in Florida, Illinois, New York and Texas.
Having started with over 25 songs, only 10 made it to the record. A Diary to Burn By is a kick-ass album with many radio-friendly monsters. The band worked both in Boston and New York as they were intent on making a record that represented the emotion and raw energy inherent in the new tracks. They reached back to their previous Engineer/Mixer, Jon Wyman, who teamed up with returning master songwriter/Producer, Jimmy Robertson Landry. “There was an edginess and familiarity in getting Jon and Jimmy together that worked well for us,” said Bob Bowser, front-man for CHERRY S/T. “We were able to be really aggressive on some tracks while laying back on a few others. We worked our asses off and it really came together.”
The band is eager to perform the new songs for their fans in the coming year (2008). Check out the tour dates here and BUY the new CD, A Diary to Burn By. They’re coming to a venue near you!
